If there’s one thing that I’m really good at, it’s last minute…anything. I’ve always been a huge procrastinator, but
I end up getting it done in the end. With July 4th coming up, I wanted to make and share a quick and easy sweet treat. These Festive Fourth of July Rice Krispy Treats are perfect to take to any cookout or holiday party. They even make a really cute table scape if you need to spruce up your decor!
By adding cardboard straws to these, I was able to turn them into “Pops”, that fit perfectly into mason jars to set on your table. Tie a colorful bow around them and BAM–decor you can eat.
Making the Rice Krispy Treats
This is a simple rice krispy treat recipe, make it yours and add whatever your family enjoys. We added a bit more marshmallows to make them extra gooey, chocolate chips to some, etc.
Everything I found to make these, I picked up at Walmart–straws, ribbon, etc.
You will need:
- 6 cups Rice Krispy or Frosted Krispy Cereal
- 1 1/2 Bags Mini Marshmallows
- 6 tablespoons Butter
- Sprinkles, Candy Melts, etc for decorating
- *Optional* Paper Straws, to make Krispy Treats into Pops!
Prepare baking sheet–you can coat with a little butter, parchment paper, or foil. Set aside. Melt the butter in a medium sauce pan over medium heat, slowly add in the marshmallows and stir continuously until melted, and then add the cereal in. Mix until well combined (a wooden spoon worked best here), and pour into prepared baking sheet. Wet your hands a little (I found this super helpful so that my hands didn’t stick to the mixture), and press down until it covers the pan evenly. Let set for at least 30 minutes before cutting into them.
I ended up putting mine in the fridge because they needed to be a little more solid to use a cookie cutter and create the shapes I wanted.
Once I had my star shapes, I inserted the straws, melted my candy melts and began decorating!
These were such a hit, not just with the kids but with the adults as well!
